Russian Black Sea Exercises Trigger Response

MOSCOW, RUSSIAN FEDERATION – In a move that has US intelligence analysts on alert, Russian President, Vladimir Putin ordered substantial military exercises in the Black Sea area. It is unknown at this time what triggered the sudden mobilization. What is known is that he ordered the exercises while aboard an aircraft at 4AM in the morning. Military experts in the West showed alarm at the hasty order by Russia’s bellicose leader.

Military exercises are not unusual. Most military forces around the world conduct them to maintain a high level of training and readiness. Typically, the exercises are scheduled. For that reason there is typically little cause for alarm when military units, scheduled for exercises in advance, begin to mobilize. Putin’s most recent order was not scheduled at all and that has Western analysts scrambling to understand the reasons why.

While specialists struggle to understand the cause of the exercise, Russian military units began in earnest. Pictured below, a unit begins the exercise.

Such a large mobilization, including 36 naval vessels and 7,000 troops, is bound to create a strong reaction from other nations. Within hours of President Putin’s surprise order, China responded by ordering it’s most modern naval vessels to sea in exercises of their own. Seen below, a Chinese naval ship ventures beyond safe harbor. An unexpected event from a navy that rarely sails out of sight from land.

As expected, one surprise military exercise triggers another. In response to China’s unscheduled exercise, US Air Force bases in South Korea went on alert. Only 4 hours after Chinese naval vessels ventured out to sea, US airmen climbed to altitude in interceptors as a precautionary measure. The Air Force pointed out that interceptors commonly fly patrols and that there is no cause for alarm. However the rapid response of US aircraft to China’s naval actions belies an unusual seriousness to the entire operation. Below, US aircraft on takeoff roll.

It wasn’t only American forces responding. The South Korean Air Force also launched their airmen as fast as humanly possible.

The US Navy, unwilling to be outdone or intimidated by China’s navy, launched military exercises in the manner that military experts describe as “The Navy Way.”
