Just Friends: Friday Fictioneers 31May2013

The Friday Fictioneers is a group writing 100 word flash fiction from a photo prompt. This week’s pic comes from Janet Webb. This time, I’m celebrating my birthday with a birthday story. It begins after the picture.

Just Friends

“So you and Natalie finally hit it off,” said Gregg, looking up.

“Naw. We’re just friends,” said Tim.

“She stayed the night at your place.”

“She was buzzed. She crashed on my couch.”

“She didn’t have a change of clothes, right?”

“I don’t think so.”

“And she looked great in that pink dress.”

Smile. “Yeah, but we’re just friends, really.”

“She slept in that dress, right?”

“Right.”

Greg pointed up. “You mean that pink dress hanging from your balcony?”

“Oh.” A grin. “Well, you could say she enjoyed her birthday.”

“In her ‘birthday suit?’ ”

Big grin. “Okay, more than friends, now.”

About EagleAye

I like looking at the serious subjects in the news and seeking the lighter side of the issue. I love satire and spoofs. I see the ridiculous side of things all the time, and my goal is to share that light-hearted view.

This is an excellently clever and funny tale, darling. Try losing the line “In her ‘birthday suit?'” and see how you like it. I think it’s superfluous and overstates it a bit. Or, tell me to take a leap if you like.

Yeah, I agree it’s hammering a bit. That’s as much Greg enjoying giving Tim a hard time as anything. The experienced readership among the Fictioneers doesn’t need things explained so much. I’m still getting used to that. Thanks so much for the kind words.

Oh come on Tim, you could have talked your way out of it. She’s in the shower and her dress is just airing?
Really like Gregg’s knowing and teasing voice.

Greg is definitely having fun at Tim’s expense. That excuse would just prolong the teasing from Gregg. Though Tim still has a lot to smile about. Thanks for stopping to comment.

An older single guy friend of my son categorizes it as such. You have those who are “friends” and those who are “friendlier friends”. Your story mad me think of that.

Yep, I’ve had friends who keep on insisting the woman in their life is just a friend, but they are obviously much more. Glad this brought back memories.
