Counting Coup

Walking Hawk’s ghost could only touch the corporeal world through his shoes. Walking mostly, he rarely counted coup anymore. He’d forgiven the
wasichu’s greediness. And then…

He found Ned talking loudly beside a Native-American mural. “Yeah, we took their land,” said Ned, smirking. “But hell, we named a football team after ’em. They ought’a be thankful!”

One hour later, Ned squirmed in his straitjacket. “It’s true! Them shoes rose up by themselves and kicked me in the cojones. My teeth too!”

Onlookers never saw the lone pair of shoes perform a coup-counting dance, and walk away with a little skip.

Every week, the wise and wonderful Rochelle Wisoff-Fields enjoins us to write up to 100 words from an image prompt. Everyone is invited our imagination’s bloom. Here is this week’s prompt:

About EagleAye

I like looking at the serious subjects in the news and seeking the lighter side of the issue. I love satire and spoofs. I see the ridiculous side of things all the time, and my goal is to share that light-hearted view.

Actually, I was intending for Ned to say, “yeah, we kicked their injun butts.” And in return, he gets kicked hard in the butt. I ran out of words quick though, and had to streamline.

Thanks bunches for your thoughts and comments!
