A Dose Of Time – Picture It & Write

Written for Picture It & Write. A story about a fountain drink of youth beings after the image.

A Dose Of Time

“I can’t believe we’re doing this,” grunted Vera, as she heaved the walker forward for another step.

Dominick held the door open. He leaned heavily on his cane. “Oh, stop complaining.”

Inside, the club, “A Dose Of Time” was a curious mix of the very old and the young. Old couples crouched at tables, nursing replacement hips and fussing with oxygen tanks. In between the tables, young couples cavorted and danced. They laughed loudly and flirted with the enthusiasm of youth.

“What the hell kinda place is this?” scowled Vera as a young man carried past a squealing young woman.

Dominick shrugged. “Danny and Connie said it was great for folks our age.”

“More like torture,” spat Vera. “This place makes me feel older.”

A waitress arrived and laid down a purple drink before each of them.

“I didn’t order this,” grunted Dominick at the feminine-looking drink. “I want a beer!”

“Oh, you must be new here,” said the smiling waitress. “This is the only drink we serve. And…it’s really, really worth it,” she said, nodding her head to a wide hallway. “Those are the Meeting Rooms.”

The hall was dimly lit. Young couples walked in, and older couples shambled out. They could see only the shadow of a young couple that didn’t quite make it into a room. Their rhythmic motion made it clear what was talked about in the meeting rooms.

With a smile, Dominick tossed his drink down. Distractedly, Vera watched the couple and drank hers too.

Something pulled her attention away from the gyrating shadows. Dominick had changed. His skin was taught and his shoulders broad. He smiled a crooked smile and looked at her with a hunger she’d missed for years. He stood up and took her hand. She looked at her hand and noticed her liver spots were gone. Her knees carried her easily to her feet. Standing straight, her breasts pressed against her dress like they used to.

The waitress grinned at the suddenly entranced pair and warned, “This drink is safe to drink only once a week, and the effects only last about 20 minutes.” Her eyes flicked toward the Meeting Rooms.

Dominick pulled her close and she felt a titillating pressure against her thigh. A tingle coursed through her youthful body. “You heard the lady,” she breathed as Dominick lifeted her up in strong arms. We’re on a schedule. Let’s get busy!”

Thirty minutes later (10 to find Vera’s missing walker), Vera hunched over and shambled forward.

Dominick carefully placed his cane to ease the pain in his knee. “Our friends were right. This is a great club.”

“It’ a den of debauchery! I’m so embarrassed. Probably isn’t even clean.”

“Uh huh. Are we coming back next week?”

“Try and stop me, you old coot!”

You may have struggled to come up with this, but good things come to those who wait. In this case, great! Loved the story, and the last little bit of banter had me laughing. Great work!
