A story, about a college professor with an interesting theory about aliens, begins after the photo.
Genre: Science Fiction/Humor
“Would anyone know if there truly was an alien invasion?” said Professor Tapp. “What if the aliens look just like one of our native animals? Nature has attempted a huge variety of designs. It’s quite possible that some of our creatures look just aliens. How will we tell then apart if they don’t step out of a spaceship?”
Several of the students smirked. Others expressed incredulity. At least they all listened with rapt attention.
Tapp checked his watch. “That’s it. Answers from chapter 14 are due Wednesday,” he said as the students streamed out of the lecture hall.
When they were all gone, he placed a strange gray box beside a terrarium housing a single, large Praying Mantis. He fed a tiny microphone, connected to the gray box, into the terrarium. The Mantis watched him attentively. Clearing his throat, Tapp spoke into another microphone, “Getting back to the warp drive, Chief Engineer. How did you overcome the energy requirements?”
The theorized Alcubierre Drive (Warp Drive) is considered workable, albeit with ridiculous energy requirements. It would require all the energy contained within the super massive planet Jupiter to propel a tiny spacecraft. Workable, but not practical…so far. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive#Mass.E2.80.93energy_requirement
This week in “Mondays Finish The story” the opening sentence is: “Would anyone know if there truly was an alien invasion?” There’s a great photo from Barbara Beacham as well.
