Tourists

“I think his communication skills were poor,” said Pol’Hy’Stin. His antennae flit back and forth, tasting the air.

“It must be,” agreed Gol’Na’Shul. “We’ve had no trouble at all.”

Pol’Hy’Stin returned from taking yet another picture with fellow tourists. His long ears flicked often. “They’re so friendly.”

“Where did Pis’D’Oph land again?”

“I think it was Trenton, New Jersey.”

Gol’Na’Shul stopped to chat with a movie producer. Shortly, he returned and said, “Humans are so funny.”

“Agreed, but why do you say that?”

“He asked who made my costume.”

“What costume?” snorted Pol’Hy’Stin. “It’s so strange here; you just gotta love Hollywood.”

Author’s Notes:
Trenton, New Jersey is the legendary location of a fictional alien landing as broadcast by Orson Welles. It caused panic in the area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_of_the_Worlds_%28radio_drama%29

Each week, the Friday Fictioneers meet in Hollywood to plot the development of human society. Okay, maybe not, but we do create the plots of flash fiction stories from a photo prompt. Rochelle Wisoff-Fields leads this creative endeavor and this week, she provided the terrific photo. Indeed! Most of the Hollywood crowd are from another planet.

LOL it’s no wonder Pis’D’Oph’s communication skills were a problem, he went to Trenton Noo Joisey. They all talk funny there. Oh so right about Hollywood, Eric. Just funny, funny, take on the prompt πŸ™‚

Yup! And in Joisey, if they see something even a little strange, like 2-dollar bill, they start shooting and ask questions later. They’re tough on each other over there, and even meaner to aliens. In Hollywood, alien costumes walk around so much, real aliens fit right in! Glad you got a laugh, Lyn! πŸ™‚

    Dear EA,

I loved how you threw New Jersey into the mix. A great tale that has probably already happened.

Yeah, I’ve had New Jersey on my brain since writing a story referencing the War of the Worlds broadcast. I couldn’t resist throwing Trenton in there. And it’s quite possible aliens have walked down Hollywood blvd., but nobody realized they weren’t the cast members of a movie. Thanks much, Doug! πŸ™‚

Lol … I’m glad you added the New Jersey note .. I’d have missed that bit of background for sure! The story held its own though even without it though! Great story … Ciao, Georgia

I’m glad folks enjoy those notes. I often do a little checking/research, even with very short stories just to be sure my facts are straight. It’s cool to know including that research helps add to the story. Glad you enjoyed it, Georgia, and thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

  11. Location, location, location. If you go to the right places, even aliens wouldn’t be given a second look. πŸ™‚
