The Device – Mondays Finish The Story

The Device

In the compound on the hill, lives a man with a dream. A dream that one day war will be eliminated and famine eradicated. Chester Duffy imagined a single device rendering the world good and pure for all humanity.

He shut down a system and removed a dollop of a strange green substance. He placed it in the device, added another subsystem, then sprinkled exotic particles over it. Carefully, he placed the lid on top. and stepped back.

Steam rose from the device as his team of specialists watched it with him. “Do you really think you’ve done it?” said Natty.

“I hope so,” said Chester, nervously wiping his hands on his apron. “We’ll have to test it.”

“I’m concerned,” said Marco, Chester’s chief assistant.

“You don’t think it’ll work?”

“Perhaps,” said Marco. “Will a lamb & beef hamburger with guacamole, sunny-side up egg, and mango salsa really save the world? I just don’t know. We may need to add pimento.”
Each week starting on Monday, it’s time to finish the story. The week, the opening sentence is, “In the compound on the hill, lives a man with a dream.” The photo above is this week’s media prompt. Look here for more stories based upon the prompts:

Totally agree. The perfect burger is critical to peace and prosperity. 😉 And I’ve thought for years the perfect burger must include guacamole. So good. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

Any hamburger–no matter how weird the ingredients, would be better than the ones from Macca’s.
I don’t think you can beat a good homemade hamburger! I love the sound of this one, Eric. Is it one of your recipes that Chester got hold of? 😀

Yikers! Okay, I’ll never go there. You really can’t beat a homemade one. Individually, we all make the best burger in the world. Although, I found a place in Half Moon Bay, California where you could build your own burger from a very wide array of choices. I designed one much like this one in the story. It was awesome. A great burger is a wonderful thing. Thanks so much, Lyn! 🙂

This might bring peace to the world, but first they’d have to put down the Vegetarians’ Rebellion.

  8. A burger with guacamole would certainly bring peace to my little corner of the world. LOL. Thanks for the chuckle!

Whenever I have one, I certainly find peace in my world. Good to know it works for you too. It’s my pleasure to bring you a chuckle, and thanks for stopping in! 🙂

  9. Just delightful! Although a burger with guac would destroy my world, we can only imagine the key world peace and harmony to be so simple.

Nice….or where I come from it’s “Hamburger with a pickle on top makes your heart go flippy flop.”

Ha, funny! I like the way you built it up as some sort of super-scientific invention.
Now I feel hungry and it’s not even 9am yet.

I like to keep folks on their toes. The description of a good burger should make anyone hungry. Maybe next I’ll include a header like: “Warning: Vivid Depictions of Food.” 😉 Thanks much for stopping by!
