As the year wound down to a close, they gathered around the table and raised their glasses. Nate smiled even if he didn’t feel the holiday cheer. Christmas/New Year parties were fun but, Santa never brought gifts and next year would be lonely and cold like last year.
Still, Dina’s party touches were great. The Santa actor looked magical and believable.
Hannah found Nate alone by the fireplace. She coaxed him out his social awkwardness like a cozy blanket easing him into comfort. She giggled sweetly at his poorly wrought jokes. Nate felt warm and happy for the first time in years. After a while, she asked him for a ride home. Her eyes promised more. Nothing saucy, just, “I’d rather be with only you.”
The Santa actor gave Nate a sparkling wink.
As Nate said goodbyes to Dina he said, “Thanks for introducing Hannah to me.”
Dina looked genuinely perplexed. “Who’s Hannah?”
Nate smirked. Sure. “Anyway, the Santa guy was great.”
She grimaced. “What Santa?”
Each Monday, it’s time to finish the story. This week the opening line to finish is: “As the year wound down to a close, they gathered around the table and raised their glasses.” The opening photo is the media prompt. I realized belatedly I haven’t done a Christmas-themed story this year. I had to get crackin’. Hope you enjoyed.
