Idealist – Gargleblaster Microfiction #204

Barry hung up the phone and grinned, “We’ll be billionaires!”

Ned couldn’t hide his shock. “But that will collapse the economy! Millions will starve.”

Barry sighed impatiently. “Do you want wealth, or impractical idealism?”

Ned drew a pistol.

“Call me an idealist.”

Or maybe somebody just doesn’t want to share… 🙂

  2. Michael says:

To paraphrase Tony Stark, as regards wealth and idealism, I’d like to have both. 🙂 But props to Ned for making the right choice, as between the two.

Yup. It really would be nice to have both. Unfortunately, the world often makes us choose between the two. Ned’s choice was pretty easy, I thought. Trouble is, people like Barry think the choice is easy too.

Humanity is counter-dividend. Stane vs Stark 😛

Uh huh. That’s been the practice of many before Stane.

Despite how this story might depict my beliefs, I’m quite the ardent believer in Capitalism. I think it’s much like fire. When properly controlled it’s a critical force for civilization. Uncontrolled, it can be terribly destructive. I hope Bankers are reading this.

Excellent, I love this and Ned make a difficult, but brilliant choice (well, perhaps minus the gun!!) 😉

  7. Ned may be an idealist, but I guess he’s not a pacifist.

    • EagleAye says:

Yup. As I pointed out to List of X, a pacifist is only one kind of idealist. There are many others and a lot of them don’t mind using guns at all. America was founded by some of them.

What the heck does Barry want to be a billionaire for? He’ll never live long enough to spend all his money (even taking Ned’s gun out of the equation). I’ve never been able to understand greed. If you have a roof over your head, clothes to wear, enough money to provide for your family and help others when you can, what more do you need?

    • EagleAye says:

I completely agree. Good food, clean water, housing, safety, health and education are all we need. It doesn’t require amassing billions to have it. There’s no need to deny others these things just so you can have a fleet of expensive cars you rarely drive. Barry didn’t understand this, and in the end it was Barry, who paid.

Well, that would get one greedy person out of the way. Sad, there are so many to take his place.
