A Mother’s Work
Life had gone on with much difficulty for the goddess, Gaea. The goddess of Earth endured many tribulations. At last, her grandson, Zeus had released her son Kronos. The bitter spat between father and son finally ceased and Kronos now oversaw the blessed dead in Elysium.
Finally, she could relax.
She finished trimming the fruit trees which grew upon her skin of soil and stone. The rather dense jungle growing between her legs needed trimming too, but she planned to leave that for later. Packs of wolves chased bison across one thigh, and prides of lions pursued zebra across the other. She watched them idly in her cool castle of white limestone, rose quartz, gold, and Lapis Lazuli.
She looked out the window…and groaned.
More troubles.
Mortals were her children as well. They were rather weak—for the moment—and needed continual protection from her grand-children, the Olympians.
“Poseidon!” she called. “Poseidon, come here my grandson.”
“I’m here, YiaYia,” said Poseidon, dragging his favorite trident behind him. It was still too big, but he would grow into it.
“Perchance, were you taking a bath?”
“Yes, YiaYia. You said it was important. I like taking baths.”
“That’s good but…”
“Hades doesn’t like baths.”
Gaea rolled her eyes. “I’m painfully aware of that, but…”
“He stinks of decay!”
“Yes, but I want to know something, young god!”
“Yes, YiaYia?”
She pointed out the window at the mortals facing disaster in their blue raincoats. “When you took your bath, did you leave the water running?”

You never disappoint me with your humorous wit. I loved it. That last line is an oscar winner. Do they give oscars for writing? lol

I think they do for screenplays. Maybe I should write one? I’m glad you liked the last minute zinger. It was what I began with. Thanks so much! 🙂

Poor Poseidon, he gets blamed for everything. Hope his aim is good around the toilet.

I suspect that Poseidon just goes into the pool, like quite a few others. 🙂

Haha! I understand he missed by a large margin in December 2004. Then there was that sneezing fit in the Gulf of Mexico in 2008. 😉

I was expecting that he did a “cannonball!!” and caused a tsunami. 🙂

Haha! He did, near the coast of Japan in 2011. How did you know about that?

Ha, I absolutely love the visual of a young Posiedon, rubbing sleepy eyes and dragging a huge trident behind him, leaving accidental destruction behind for mortals while he searches for his rubber ducky.

Haha! I almost blew coffee out my nose. Yep. That’s the exact visual I had. I’m glad it translated so well. Only trouble his, he keeps confusing his rubber ducky for a cruise ship, like that one in Italy. 😉 Thanks much, Shannon!
