Thorough Study (Unabridged)

Arriving at the beach, she reflected on her life.

Elena Yarrow’s admission scores for the Star Academy were the highest ever recorded. She graduated top of her class. Her paper on Inertial Compensator Efficiency revolutionized starship design. So how did she end up with a posting involving filing? Filing? Her pleas for missions of import were ignored, her requests for transfer, lost.

Her love life was no better. Men lost interest as soon as she mentioned plasma injector design. After her continuous pestering, she was finally given a mission: finding the lost planet of Avalon. Bah! The so-called planet of Granted Wishes? A myth! It was merely something to get her out of the way.

A tall, dark young man with a lovely physique and a smooth, masculine face, strode across the sand and offered her favorite drink. A Cadillac Margarita.

“Thank you, Martine.”

“Of course, My Queen. Perhaps later we can walk along the beach, holding hands, and discussing your thoughts on fusion containment fields.”

“Smashing, Martine,” she grinned.

She paused to examine the wreckage of her landing shuttle beside the treeline. Normally, being stranded on a deserted planet was every starship pilot’s worst nightmare. A terror to imagine. She turned back to Martine and noted he still wore only a thong, and that it could hardly hope to cover…well, THAT much. For a moment, she felt guilty. If she applied herself, she could repair the transponder and call her ship in orbit for help.

It was her her duty to report that she had, in fact, found Avalon. Perhaps her discovery would be met with the same fanfare as her paper on Inertial Compensator Efficiency: a posting involving filing.

One shan’t be too hasty, she told herself.

Perhaps it was mere coincidence that as she idly thought crash-landing on this uncharted planet might be a welcome respite, that the engines failed. Surely it was happenstance that the most desirable male in human history, lived alone on this planet. Certainly it was blind luck that his engineering knowledge was exemplary, and that he found her ideas fascinating. Perhaps it was commonplace in this area of the galaxy that men were thrilled by a woman’s mind as much they lavishly worshiped her body.

Yes, this might not be Avalon after all, mused Elena. “Lower back please, Martine.”

It must be pure accident that Martine’s fingers were so strong, yet so sensitive, and…she moaned…so effective.

Yes, she thought, as Martine’s thong fell away. A careful and thorough study is warranted before reporting in.
