A Universe
Melissa pointed her tiny, 5-year old finger at the leaf. “Daddy. What’s that?”
“That’s a dewdrop, sweetie,” said Joshua.
“What’s a dewdrop?”
“Well,” said Joshua. “Most think it’s a drop of water, but actually, it’s a tiny Universe. It looks just like ours. The people living there don’t know it’s tiny. They think everything inside is the right size.”
“Are they nice?”
“Oh yes, just like you.”
…
Inside the dewdrop, there really was a tiny Universe. Inside, a little girl named Melinda asked her father what a dewdrop was.
“It holds a tiny Universe,” said Jacob.
…
“…a small Universe,” said John.
…
“…a Universe…”
…

If all the little made up science we told our children were actually true….this world would be a very wierd place…maybe a better place too 🙂 Nice one.

Hehe. Sometimes I think it would be better too. Who knows much of it is right? Thanks so much! 🙂

I LOVE it! So innocent. I have had the same kind of thoughts – we are a tiny universe among billions of tiny universes…Great story!

Oh that’s so cool. A fellow philosopher! Or perhaps another enthusiast of the sciences and multi-verse theory? Either way, thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 🙂

I’m hoping there is a parallel universe that we get to have “do-overs.” LOL! I get to “do over” certain parts of my life. Haha!

That’s how the theory goes. Every time you come to a point where you make a decision, you go one way, another “you” goes the other direction in a different universe. This happens millions of times because we’re making decisions all the time. So yeah, another you actually did do things differently. Pretty cool, eh?

Yes! I have thought that same thing. Our lives are being played out in other universes the same as on earth, but different. If we die in one universe, we are still alive in another universe so our “life” continues on.

Inside a snow globe was a little girl holding a snow globe asking…
what are those carved boxes within boxes called?
nice…

Yes, exactly! I think you were thinking of the Russian Matryoshka dolls. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matryoshka_doll
I was considering mentioning them in the story. I was also thinking of infinity mirrors. I love things like that. I’m glad you liked this. Thank you, kindly!

I just looked at your story. We really did take the same angle. Brilliant minds I guess. 😉 Thanks much for the visit! 🙂

I put aside the humor this week to see if I could get imaginations churning. It’s fun to change up once in a while. Thank you kindly, Rochelle! 🙂

Wonderful imagination and who knows? I’ve never been one to believe we were the only ones. Well done.

There’s many things we still don’t understand. Sometimes the stuff of fantasy turn out to be true. Thanks you much! 🙂

That’s right! Maybe there’s a bit of truth in those fairy tales. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by, Liz! 🙂

Fractals, they are everywhere, and so I guess you are onto something. 🙂 I also like multiverse theories. And then there’s the whole quantum mechanics thingy (which I only can read about in wonder, but don’t claim to understand) where one particle goes both ways at the same time…
Uh, what was it I wanted to say? Yes: great writing, this is as thought-provoking as it is charming. 🙂

Yeah, quantum mechanics is seriously cool, but mind-blowing also. I wouldn’t claim to fully understand it either. Still, wrapped up in the theory is great potential for SciFi stories. Antoher interesting part of it is that the mere acto of observing changes things. So Shroedinger’s Cat is actually dead, until you “observe” it. Crazy, eh? I’m glad you enjoyed this. Thanks so much! 🙂

Thanks for bringing me back to Horton Hears a Who. I do wonder about parallel universes, and worlds that are like ours but at different points in our time line. Watched too much of the original Star Trek re-runs! Great story within a story within . . .

Hehe. I think I watched the old Trek too many times as well, and Horton Hears a Who a bunch of times too. It’s a fun concept to explore. Thanks so much! 🙂

Reminds me of Whoville. But what happens when the dewdrop evaporates?

It reminded many of it. After evaporation, it’s the end of a universe, but from that, another forms.
