Catastrophic Art

After leaving Earth, Xerp looked everywhere for them. His moth-like antennae quivering with frustration, he called to his wife, Glyp. “Honey! Have you seen my paints? I can’t find them.”

“You mean the ones that create reality from what you paint?” said Glyp, fluttering her wings in anxiety. “Sweetie, I hope you didn’t leave them on the planet! They could be dangerous.”

Back on Earth, Imogen loved the paints she found in her garden. She finished a painting of her roses with a flourish. The success of the new paints got her thinking and she turned away from the canvas, deep in thought. She never saw the rose bud emerge from the painting and blossom…outside the canvas.

Excited, Imogen stalked away from the canvas without a look back. She’d been commissioned to paint a movie poster, and it was still unfinished. The unusual depth of the new paints would look amazing on her piece, “The Beast That Ate San Diego!”
