Warren leaned on his cane as he brought his teen-aged daughter to the spot. “It was the best day of my life.” He smiled wistfully.
“What happened?” said Evette.
Warren pointed to the street drain. “I dropped my paycheck down that. I needed it to pay rent or get kicked out. So, I’m digging into the drain when a city bus hits me.”
“How awful!”
“In the hospital, I see the nurse for the first time. She trips and falls on my broken leg.”
“Oh! You must have hated her.”
Warren grinned. “Nope. A year later she gave birth to you!”

Okay, just like last week, I wrote one story and wasn’t sure about it. So I wrote another. I went to a literary expert…and my wife said she liked both.Β I don’t always write two like this. It just seems to happen lately. Rochelle, let me know if you’d prefer I don’t post two. Okay, here’s my other effort.
Insta-Ship
Beat cop, Harry Moynihan, watched the man in weird clothes drop a sugar cube thingee down the street drain. “What was that?” said Harry.
“Not to worry,” smiled Karavindu. “I’m making a new spaceship.”
“Alien, right?” sighed Harry.
Karavindu nodded.
Harry spoke to the mic on his shoulder. “Dispatch? Send the psych guys.”
“No, really,” insisted Karavindu. “It’s nanotech called Transvillicoccus. It works in the water supply.”
To the mic: “Send the CDC!”
The street bulged and broke. A five-hundred foot spaceship suddenly broke through.
“Dispatch?”
“Whaddya want now?” quipped the police dispatcher. “The Army?”
“Don’t be ridiculous…send the Air Force!”
I like both, but prefer the second one. π

I like both stories but I have a soft spot for the first one. How cute, the nurse fell on his broken leg. A klutzy nurse but cute.

Yep. Sometimes the worst days can lead to the greatest things. Sometimes a klutzy nurse is the most beautiful in the world. Life is funny like that. π Thanks so much! π

The first story is very entertaining.
Fate falls on its face.

It sure did, but at least one time on this day, it did it in a good way. Glad you had fun. Thanks much! π

Most cool. It’s starting to look like number one wins this round. Glad you enjoyed them. Thanks kindly! π

Dear Eric,
I have no problem with your writing two stories, particularly when they’re both so entertaining. I love the way the policeman in the second story doesn’t miss a beat. Nothing seems to shock him. I can see him delivering those lines in total deadpan. And I always enjoy a good “how I met your mother story.” ‘
Well done on both counts.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thanks Rochelle! Beat cops are pretty tough guys. They’ve seen it all, even spaceships apparently. π I’m glad both came out well. Thanks so much! π

Yep, I like both stories too, but I think I like the second just a little better. No wait…the first one. Mmmm, no, maybe the second one because it could take you a whole lot further π

Hehe. Sounds like a close race. It’s kinda where I’m at. I couldn’t decide on just one.The spaceship would definitely take you to more sights. The force might lose a good beat cop due to early retirement. π Thanks much, Lyn! π

And another two knocked out of the park. Can’t blame you for posting both. I can’t decide which one I like better. (Unless… the old man WAS the alien! Ugh, that’s horrible. Where the Hell did I put my coffee?)

Aw, shucks. Thanks so much! I couldn’t decide either. The old man, was just an old man, though if he could get a trip on a spaceship, he might do it. π

Both have a little something but I have a soft spot for the klutzy first one!

I have my a soft spot for klutzy nurses too. My wife is one, and I love her dearly. Though, she’s never a klutz at work, thank goodness! Glad you enjoyed them! Thanks! π

You’re wife’s a true expert, they are both great. I love the first for its romantic humour, but the second is my favourite. It’s funny, whimsical and unique.

Awesome. I think Shey is an excellent reader. I really prize her opinions. I like your descriptions of the stories. That’s how I feel about them. Whimsy is something I always love. I’m happy to know others enjoy that too. Thanks so much! π

If there is a contest going on, my vote goes to the first one! I love happy endings that take a while getting there (not that your story did, mind you)! π

Haha! No contest but it’s still interesting to see which story people like best. I love happy endings too. I’ll take them over the alternative any day. π Thanks so much! π

Two good ones, in my view, but the second one gets first prize from me – I like the deadpan tone and I have a soft spot for sci-fi ideas.
