The Great Horse Hope

Nick stomped his hoof with excitement. “That’s him right there. Marv is our Great Horse Hope.”

“Him?” said Nana. “What’s so special about him?”

“He got the experimental ‘Uplift’ treatments. It boosted his IQ by like a thousand or something.”

“Wow!”

“Yeah. The humans gave him his own tablet. He’s got a special pen he holds in his mouth to control it.”

“Amazing! So what can he do? Is he writing software programs?”

Nick put his mouth close to her ear and whispered. “It’s all hush-hush, you know. He’s working with special software. He says it will bust us all out of here!”

“Really?”

“Yes! Soon we’ll be running free again on the wide open plains.”

“But the fences…”

“They’re all computer-controlled, right? And that tablet is a computer, right? Comprende?” winked Nick. “He’s been working for months on it.”

Nana bobbed her head excitedly. “This is so thrilling! But it’s been taking months. That’s a long time, isn’t it?”

“Patience, patience.”

“Hmmm. What’s the name of that software he’s using?”

Nick whispered. “Well, it sounds all very complicated to me. I don’t understand most of what Marv is saying. The software is called Facebook. Nick’s taking something called Selfies!”
