The Excellent Students

Colonel Galt stood at a podium on the stage. He looked out at the auditorium filled with the government officials of his latest customer. It was his job to sell the product and he was very good at it. He lifted a pointer and gestured at the large screen beside him. On it, a picture of a port bordered by a highway, showed with crystal clarity.

“Here we can see a live feed of one target for your theoretical marine assault,” said Galt. “We’ve spent billions developing the WallFly Drone system. It’s no bigger that a fly, yet it can provide images this clear. The drone is so small and lifelike, it is undetectable, and therefore, unstoppable. Our unmatched operational security ensures that no one is aware of this technology. That means your reconnaissance efforts will catch the enemy completely by surprise.”

Six thousand miles away, General Wright stood before an audience in a small auditorium. The screen beside him displayed a similar view, except this one shifted frequently.

Wright gestured with his pointer. “If you watch carefully, you can see the new WallFly Drone system presently being marketed to several international players. It’s being tracked at the center of the screen.”

Something pale and gooey snapped into view and struck the fly drone, pulling it out of view in an instant.

Wright continued with a smile, “The WallFly Drone is an excellent system, but Nature is an excellent teacher and we endeavor to be excellent students. That’s where our BullFrog Drone system comes in…”
