Two Kodiak bears sat in their zoo enclosure. It was beautifully built to look natural. Unfortunately, the efforts of the zoo to make the bears comfortable were spoiled by some teen-aged boys, who hurled pine cones at the bears.
“I really hate this,” muttered Bert, the younger of the two bears.
“Oh relax. It’s just pine cones,” said Boris. He calmly poured A-1 sauce on a haunch of meat.
“It’s still insulting! Don’t they know about that tiger that killed taunting teenagers in San Francisco?”
“Guess not.”
“Wish we could just leap the gap and get at them.”
“Would be nice wouldn’t it?”
“I’m pretty sure I couldn’t make that leap.”
Boris applied more sauce and took another bite. “You’d be surprised what you can do if you put your mind to it.”
“Aargh!” Bert growled as a pine cone actually hit him that time. “I hate taunters! They’re terrible.”
“No they’re not.”
“Seriously?”
“Serious,” said Boris, taking another sauce-covered bite. “They’re pretty good when you put A-1 on them.”

Author’s Notes:
Three teenagers were taunting a Siberian Tiger in San Francisco with pine cones when it leaped the gap of its enclosure. The tiger killed one and mauled the other two. For me, I feel sorry for the tiger.

What can you say? “Justice is served.” With A-1 sauce. Delicious tale. 😉

Yaaaay!! Let’s hear it for the tiger! C’mon Boris and Bert, you could at least hurl the pine cones back at them…I bet you’re a much better shot than them. You’d certainly have more force to your throw 😉 Hmmm I wonder how Boris managed to snag his taunter?

Hehe. I was in SF when I heard about the tiger attack. Seems to me that Karma was having a banner day. And Boris isn’t much of a leaper, but he’s rather good at climbing the misplaced rocks in his enclosure. He’s not ready to give up his secret just yet. He’s having too much fun. 😉 Thanks Lyn! 🙂

You can’t go wrong with a little A-1 sauce, makes even stubborn teenage meat taste good 😉

Haha! Hard to imagine that even bitter teenagers might develop good taste, but there it is. 😉 Thanks Jade! 🙂

He has a point: a little steak sauce makes even a mean cut of meat taste better. 🙂

Haha! So true. Boris knows how to make the best of a bad situation and just…take it all in. 😉 Thanks so much for the visit, Joy! 🙂

It happens everywhere, not just teenagers, I have seen adults also behaving foolishly. But poor animals, they don’t have A1 sauce here. Tasty tale.

I know. That’s the sad thing about it. People who should have better wisdom sometimes don’t. Oh well, I understand from a Bengal Tiger friend of mine that taunters are just as tasty in a nice saag curry or perhaps mint chutney. 😉 Thanks Indira! 🙂

Yep. Taunting an animal, even if caged, is tantamount to stupidity. It’s just cruel even if the animal isn’t so dangerous. I just hope that I teachw my daughter better than that. Thanks for stopping in!

this also happens with people as in dealing with bullies …

too true! i never like animals in enclosure treated badly. for that matter just don’t like to see them in enclosure at all. the bears do have a nice sense of humour though.

I have a love/hate relationship with zoos. I think they’re necessary because with them people and children realize how wonderful the animals are. Perhaps, they’ll support conservation efforts for the other animals in the wild. On the other hand I feel bad for the animals in captivity. I like zoos where they at least try to make natural looking and spacious enclosures. But then if someone taunts the animals, that’s just awful. The bears, well they can take it well if they know they can get revenge. 😉

same here, and zoos in Asia and atrocious! It should be like a mini habitat for the animals, sadly the condition of the area these poor animals live in and their own physical state makes me so mad to even think of going to one. Indeed its a good learning place for children and adults but I feel there’s no respect for the animal’s unique living needs only for financial gain in adding more cages and enclosures. i appreciated your story for being funny yet highlighting human greed and apathy as well as the senseless bullying and taunting.

It certainly is. But at least this way, taunters for once in their lives can be described as having…good taste. 😉 Thanks kindly! 🙂
