The Heavenly Encounter

Jenny joined her grandfather on the bench beside the gravestone.

“Here’s your lunch, Grandpa,” she said.

“Thanks!” He accepted the sandwich. “I’m famished.”

“You know, Grandpa. Ghosts don’t get hungry.”

Grandpa patted her knee condescendingly. “You’re sweet, pumpkin.”

She left and joined her friend Annie in the kitchen.

“What did he say?” asked Annie.

“He still won’t believe me.”

“Remind me why he thinks he’s a ghost.”

“He met Padma Lakshmi in a cafe once.”

“The Top Chef host?”

“Yep. That’s the one.”

“And then…?”

“They had a nice chat. Afterward, he swore he’d died and gone to heaven!”

Beautiful lady I can see why Grandpa thinks he’s dead and gone to heaven. A funny thing to keep believing as even kids who have greater imaginations, know Grandpa is still with them. Cute story 🙂

Yeah, right? I didn’t have room for it, but the granddaughter is in her twenties. A grown adult, now becoming the parent to the elder. At least Grandpa is happy with the experience, if a little cuckoo about it. 😉 Thanks so much! 🙂

  10. Great twist in this one! Wonder when Grandpa will “waken” again?
At least Grandpa talks. A friend once met a lady in the psych ward who really believed she was a duck. All she ever said was, “Quack Quack.”

Yikes! Yeah, things could certainly be worse. I think Grandpa wakes up when he meets the class bully from high school, a guy who no way could make it to heaven.;) Thanks Christine! 🙂
