Anger Management

Wu and Huang (Hong Kong Police, Undercover Division) were on foot. The purse-snatcher was getting away on a bicycle. They “appropriated” a tourist’s tandem bicycle to catch up. Huang, young and a month on the force, peddled like mad. Wu, middle-aged with fifteen years experience, crossed his arms and coasted along.

“What the hell?” shouted Huang. “Help!”

“No rush,” yawned Wu. “There’s these old ladies ahead. They practice Tai Chi in this park every day.”

“Old ladies?” scoffed Huang.

“Yep. They practice to be centered because big-city life always makes them angry.”

“Who cares if old ladies get angry?”

“They really hate being disrupted.”

“So?”

“There’s fifty of them.”

They found the purse snatcher on the sidewalk, just barely breathing.

Huang vomited.

Wu gazed impassively at the thief and tutted, “Does it hurt with your hand waaay up there?”

Huang wiped his mouth. “His shoulders are dislocated!”

“I’d say the ladies should practice more Tai Chi.”

“Are you kidding me!”

“Nope.” Wu pointed at the broken thief. “They obviously still get too angry.”

While living in San Francisco I shopped in Chinese markets many times. I learned never to get between an old Chinese woman and the perfect melon.

Your afternote cracked me up, and reminded me of many similar childhood stories growing up in a Chinese family LOL

I really loved your story, just the right touch of humor and balance of the two detective personalities.

Hehe. I can’t tell you how many times a 4’10” Chinese granny shoved me out of the way to get to the Bitter Gourd. 😀 Glad you enjoyed the story. The detective personalities came to me from some of those Hong Kong action movies with Chow Yun Fat. Thanks much! 🙂

Ha! I remember the TV series well. Whenever Dr. Banner (Bill Bixby) said that, you knew Lou Ferrigno would pop out and the bad guys were going to get it, big time. 🙂 Thanks James!

Yikes! The Tai-Chi grannies are a force to be reckoned with as the thief found out the most painful way possible. Well writte, EA. Loved the PS 😀

  7. The old grannies ‘s anger helped the two detectives. they should be grateful to the practitioners of the Chinese art.Wu’s fifteen year experience came handy.

Oh priceless! That would so have been my mother. LOL a bit like the time she stuck her walking stick out and tripped a POI being pursued by a couple of police officers.
