The Water Folk

The town of Bailey grew faster than  other small towns. Its town council and individual businessman all made savvy decisions. Outsiders never knew why, but locals thanked the Water Folk.

Water Folk arrived on comets more than two billion years ago. Nearly all water, with trace minerals and electrical charges, the creatures generated magnetic fields with which they controlled their form. Their intelligence was immeasurable, their wisdom beyond imagining.

They lived in the storm drains of Bailey, offering advice to anyone who asked for it. At Vine and Main, Windom appeared before Monica. His anthropomorphic form was comforting though he was still slightly translucent. He listened carefully to Monica’s question then spat, “Well fire her then! You’ll both be better off.”

To Michael, Windom said, “Sell that worthless stock! What are you thinking?”

Everyone noticed that Windom had become abrasive lately. People began asking other Water Folk how to deal with him.

Months later, a different Water Folk streamed up onto the sidewalk.

“You’re not Windom,” said Stephanie.

“I’m Waldren, Windom’s son.”

“Oh! He’s become so angry lately.”

“He needed a vacation.”

“I see. So you’re not like him?”

“Not at all! I’m the watered down version.”

About EagleAye

I like looking at the serious subjects in the news and seeking the lighter side of the issue. I love satire and spoofs. I see the ridiculous side of things all the time, and my goal is to share that light-hearted view.

Reminds me of the two prawns in the sea, Gerry and Christian. Gerry is sick of being hunted by all the other sea creatures and wants to be something that isn’t scared any more. He says to his friend – I’m going to see Ursula, the sea witch and het her to change me into something else. SO off he goes, and when he reaches the big octopus, he asks to be a bigger creature. Ursula laughs maniacally and changes him into a shark.

Off he goes as a shark and visits his friend, and when he sees him, he has the sudden urge to eat him, so starts chasing him everywhere. Christian is terrified and hides himself at home. When he sees how he has made his friend feel, Gerry sees it was a bad idea, so he trundles off to see Ursula again to change him back into his original form. She refuses, saying he wanted it, and didn’t think of the consequences. He remarks that he is hungry and has a hankering for octopus, so she relents and turns him back. As soon as the metamorphosis was completed, he swam back to his friend as fast as he could. He called out to him, but the terrified response was to tell him to go away.

“You can trust me now. I’m a prawn again Christian.”
