George was taking pictures of the stars when he saw a huge area with no stars. He called the local astronomy club and all 112 of them rushed out.
Soon the national press appeared. CNN broadcasted a Special Report about the astonishing “black hole” in space. The press corps of twenty nations arrived and broadcast to their respective countries.
Fighter planes roared through the area, scanning the sky and preparing their missiles to fire.

Aboard the 3-mile long, alien science vessel, Captain Brrygyt glared at his Chief Engineer.
“Oh sure,” he mocked. “Just paint the ship black. Nobody will notice!”

They might want to do something about radar as well.

Absolutely. They really didn’t think this one through. You can be certain the fighter planes locked up a 3-mile spaceship on radar with ease.

Assuming their air-to-air missiles could travel into orbital space.

Oh they’d work fine at 3,000 feet where the ship was operating. Though, the missiles wouldn’t harm it much. Still, the alien’s goal of simply observing and not disrupting anyone completely failed, and the Chief Engineer has been sacked.

3,000 feet? A helicopter can fly higher. These aliens were sure taking chances.

You don’t have to think it through. Great punchline in my opinion.

No they didn’t. I think the Chief Engineer is now a mere Lieutenant. 😉

Logistics aside, I enjoyed your punch line. 🙂
Having seen a train over two miles long, I can somewhat picture this “black hole” zipping across the sky, leaving quite a vapor trail behind.

Your observation that people can screw up big-time no matter how well qualified and intelligent is spot-on!

Thank you! Yes, I believe highly intelligent people don’t make fewer mistakes, they just make highly intelligent mistakes! 😉

Love the ending! It brings the story right back around to humor which all of us humans know and thus connects us with the aliens. Well done.

Hehe. Too often we think aliens would be too smart to ever make an error. I disagree. Advanced aliens would indeed make mistakes, the would just make advanced mistakes. 😉 Thanks so much for the kind words.
