Walking into the Gus Waldorf’s lab was like walking into the future. Sandy Gomez, science reporter at large, gazed around the science lab stunned by all the curious devices. At last, she found something familiar.
“That’s a toaster, right?” she pointed.
“Don’t be silly,” said Gus. “That’s a Sapornatical Intrepolimator.”
“Okay…”
“It’s used to establish quantum entanglement in atomic clouds for FTL communications.”
“Amazing! That could change deep space communications. But over there is a pizza oven, right?”
“Outrageous! No, that’s an Infraticulating Haplunitite. It loosens molecular bonds to ease food reproduction by nano food printers.”
Sandy’s shoulders sagged. It seemed even the familiar wasn’t really what it seemed to be. She actually knew a lot about technology, having a degree from MIT, but in Gus’ lab she felt uneducated.
She pointed up. “So I suppose that’s not a Ceiling Fan.”
“Of course it isn’t. That is a Jambilicktion Cleritomiphilizer.”
“And it’s used for…?”
Gus shrugged. “It moves the air around to keep the lab cool.”

Pretty much. Humans are like that. We’re not satisfied with just one word for a thing. We need many.

Tell me about it. Orwell’s novel “1984” depicted a totalitarian nation controlling its citizens by limiting its vocabulary. If you don’t have a word for “revolution,” you can’t define it let alone practice it. In today’s real world, our vocabularies are being shaped by social media not to eliminate words and concepts, but to reshape them into a particular paradigm which, if you stay from it, you fall into various undesired “labels.”

Circulating around my mind right now is the thought that your talents could be well employed in some developmental advertising organization. Start by sending Ford a list of suggested names for upcoming models. Get your foot in the door, so to speak. Surely you can do better than “Cube.” 😉

One can only imagine what the future will be with the antiquated devices we are currently using! 😉

You never know. And now I’m wondering what my trusty can opener might be called. 😉 Thanks Courtney! 😉

Fabulous. It’s like me in any science lab, let alone in that complicated one. These names are for real or your imagination, real tongue- twisters.

Thank you! Those names are made up, but I wanted them to “sound” real. 😉
