Global Big Day

Sorry for no stories the past few days. Shey and I participated in Global Big Day. Each May, birdwatchers around the globe, “flock” to the countryside to count as many bird species as they can find. This year the goal was to count 7,000 different species. We ventured to Port Aransas, TX to do our own count. Here’s a small sampling of what we photographed.

Yellow-Crowned Night Heron

Tri-color Heron

White Ibis

Baltimore Oriole (F)

Chestnut-sided Warbler

Northern Parula

This N. Parula isn’t sleeping. He’s just wiping his beak.

Grey Catbird

Yellow Warbler

Yellow-throated Vireo (with lunch)

American Avocet

About EagleAye

I like looking at the serious subjects in the news and seeking the lighter side of the issue. I love satire and spoofs. I see the ridiculous side of things all the time, and my goal is to share that light-hearted view.

Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever even seen that many birds in one day (except at a zoo or sanctuary), much less been quick enough to take a photo. But then, I’m lousy at both bird spotting and taking photos — so thanks for letting me live vicariously through your skills and patience! So pretty, and what great variety, too.

Shey and I found a fantastic place this time around. We photographed 43 different species of birds in one day. That’s a record for us. We were tired, but elated. Glad you enjoyed the pics. Thanks Joy! 🙂

I’m impressed that you can even recognize 43 different species of birds! Good job on setting a new personal record — and a very high one, too! That’s going to be hard to beat next year.

So, when are you participating in the Big Year? 🙂 (I’m not a birder myself, but I’ve seen the movie.)

I doubt I’ll ever do that. That’s a whole bunch of traveling and dedication I’m too lazy to do. I’ll travel a little bit, to a place I already wanted to go to, but that’s it. 😉
