Sun’s Blessing

She found me every Sunday during the summer of my eighteenth year. I waited at a park bench until the park sundial read 12:00 exactly. She would appear at exactly that moment. Curly, straw-colored hair formed a halo around her head. Her warm smile could make flowers bloom.

Each Sunday we danced and played in the park and made love at a secluded beach. We never went indoors. She never stayed until evening. Each Sunday, she would remind me to give thanks for the sun’s blessing, and say goodbye.

I asked her to marry me, but she could not be possessed. Frustrated, I stopped waiting for her. I didn’t understand.

That was many years ago. I understand now. At 12:00 on the park sundial, she appears. She still shines for me just like before. Then clouds roll in, and she’s gone. I still smile, and give thanks for the sun’s blessing.
