Situation 14 – Friday Fictioneers

Written for the Friday Fictioneers. A story, about art so good it pulls someone into it, begins after the image.

Situation 14

Captain Brandt exited the orange Coast Guard Rescue Chopper and walked inside.

Penny winced at the coastguardsman’s flight gear and apologized profusely. “I’m sorry, Captain. I told the operator my husband fell into the waves of computer art, not real waves.”

Brandt scowled. “It’s that painting by Katsushika Hokusai, right?”

“Yes.”

“Not a problem, ma’am.” Brandt turned. “Jones! Situation 14!”

In moments. Petty Officer Jones installed ‘Rescue Chopper’ on the laptop and an animated helicopter fished her husband from the painting’s waves.

“Thank you!” cried Penny, hugging her sopping-wet husband.

“No problem,” said Brandt. “People fall into Hokusai’s wave all the time!”

Each week, the Friday Fictioneers commune for a litany of lots of little literary links to flash fiction from an image prompt. Check the link for more stories based upon the image at the top of this post. Have fun!: http://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/2014/06/04/6-june-2014/

    “[…]and walked in the inside”
Maybe you could have said that differently. πŸ™‚

I really liked the story. I loved how routine this sounded to Capt. Brandt. πŸ˜€

Yikers! That’s what happens when editing while in a hurry. Thank you for the catch. I fixed it. Yes, that’s what is funny about it for me. He should’ve been flummoxed and disbelieving if all things were normal, but he takes it stride. It’s just another product of my bizarre imagination. Thanks so much for stopping in!

  17. Eric, That was fun. πŸ™‚ I could just imagine a little helicopter being animated to fish someone out of the painting’s wave. Just another painting rescure for the Captain. Well done. πŸ˜€ —Susan

  18. Dear Eric, What a wonderful imagination you have! Good job – I love it! Glad they retrieved her husband from the wave. This is why I like writing so much – for every mishap, there CAN be an safety door or exit!. Epic story Eric! Excellent, Nan πŸ™‚

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments. Wow, I just want to write some more after reading that! You’re right, with enough imagination we can put our characters into grave danger and pull then straight out of it again. Very much appreciated comments, Nan. Thank you. πŸ™‚
