Going Places

Brandon never placed much stake on things. His drab unpretentious clothing didn’t stop him when he saw her.

Vanessa was gorgeous. Expensively dressed at the curb, Brandon fell for her immediately. It was little things that caught his attention: the mole beneath her eye, the shape of her shoulder’s birthmark, her delicate hands.

Brandon introduced himself and offered to take her on a tour on his bicycle.

Vanessa glanced at Brandon’s beaten 10-speed leaning against the wall. She grimaced, “Hon. I’m pretty expert at measuring a man just by looking at him. You’re never going places. Not like my boyfriend.”

Just then a brand-new Mustang sports car pulled up beside her. She pointed, “That’s him. Now he’s going places!” She climbed in after giving Brandon a pitying glance.

Brandon sighed and climbed on his bike. He engaged the special gear he invented and slipped into the timestream, riding back in time. He decided to keep that date with the Princess of Monaco. She was nice. He just hoped she wouldn’t offer him another Lamborghini.

I like looking at the serious subjects in the news and seeking the lighter side of the issue. I love satire and spoofs. I see the ridiculous side of things all the time, and my goal is to share that light-hearted view.

  2. Well, Vanessa is a loser anyway! Hahaha! GREAT ending! Loved that he was much better than she thought he was. “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” I think it’s wonderful that material things aren’t important to him. Great story!!

Yeah, she’s not nearly as smart as she thinks she is. She could “go places” with him where no one else could take her. Too bad. She missed out. Brandon is a humble guy. He likes traveling and experiences much more than “things.” Glad you enjoyed this. Thanks so much! 🙂

  4. I wish someone would give me a Lamborghini! My wife did give me a Bugatti Veyron for my birthday a few years back, which was very kind of her. Of course the budget we had meant it was a bit – er – smaller than the usual ones, like about 1/76, and it hadn’t been made by Bugatti themselves – it was license-built by Mattel. But hey… my wife still bought me a Veyron. It sat for a while under my computer monitor until I replaced it with a similarly scaled SdKfz 251 license built by Tamiya out of injection moulded plastic.

Ohmigod. My jaw is still sore from when it dropped and hit the table. I was thinking, “He’s got a Veyron? Oh man, he’s rich!” Now that I know it was a matchbox car, I’ve calmed down. I suppose that method is the only way I’ll ever get my Aston-Martin Vanquish. I like your new car. I think I’d still like a Hawker Typhoon to decorate my desk.

Well, technically, Vanessa was right, because Brandon is going times, not places. 🙂

Ha ha, her loss — although Vanessa clearly wasn’t right for him anyway, if that’s her attitude! But to be logical (which you know I can’t help), a car would have one major advantage — a passenger seat. Much more comfortable and safe than perching on the back of a bike!

Gee! Where’s the happy-medium for this guy? ….one wants to give him everything, the other one thinks he is nothing unless he has everything….poor guy is looking for a real relationship where the actual PERSON means something! I hope he finds that special someone, that believes he is special because of who He is !

Wow, you really understood where I was going with this one. A real relationship was what he was looking for. Yeah, Vanessa was gorgeous, but it was the little things he noticed about her. It’s those small things – often imperfections – that make one person perfect for another. Hopefully he does find someone soon. Lucky for him he…literally…has all of time to look for someone. 🙂
