The creatures that Brent saw in the alley were undoubtedly alien. He cautiously peered around the cardboard box that was his home. They looked like clothed bunnies with enormous antennas.
One of them stepped forward. “I am Fureet, a scientist on my world. With your help, we’d like to to conduct a sociological experiment.”
Brent was terrified. People asked weird things of the homeless all the time. “I don’t do no anal testing!”
“Nothing like that,” assured Fureet. “We will give you $10 million dollars. To receive it, you must spend one day trying to give that amount of money away. If you do give it away we’ll still give you $100 dollars. Will you help us?”
The next day, Brent sat on an old box in his usual spot in the sidewalk. He held up a new hand-written cardboard sign. Some tossed money in his little can. Most ignored him and passed him by. When the day finished, no one accepted his offer. The aliens gave him the $10 million and he walked away a rich man. He tossed the cardboard sign on the ground. It read as follows:
PLEASE let me
GIVE you
$1 0,000,000 dollars.
Anything Helps
God Bless

Author’s notes:
Yeah, I know I could’ve written this without aliens. But aliens and spacceships and robots are what I do, man. It’s the way I roll.
Brent is a smart guy, I feel the alien’s experiment was flawed! π

I have a feeling they learned more about Brent than anything else. π

I was going to say “Brent’s a smart guy.” but Iain beat me to it.

In todayβs world one hardly needs aliens. But I agree if you have aliens, they do need good eye sight.

Haha! Good eyes does help for reading that fine print. π

Many depths here, comments on society. Their experiment was him and yet he found a way to work around their parameters. He did so by using a method we have all seen and most have passed by, not stopping. So who is worse? The man who cheats or those who walk away?

Excellent questions. I’m not sure of the answers. I’d say the aliens got lots of interesting data on humanity, especially Brent. Thanks for stopping in!

Ha ha ha, I just hope the challenge that the aliens set for the next guy is not to take that 10 million dollars away from Brent in a single day π

Haha! That would be vicious. They might do it.
