Faulty Lore – Friday Fictioneers

Faulty Lore

Igalda Doeghn waved her hand at the mossy ruins. “Once was Druidic temple.” Her Gypsy accent was heavy.  “Is bestowed by powerful magicks!”

“Wow!” exclaimed Cindy. “Can you feel the energy?”

“I do!” shuddered Bob.

Maggie Jones (aka: Igalda Doeghn) surreptitiously covered her “Metallica” tattoo with a scarf. She pointed. “Drink from fountain! Is healing for sick bodies.”

As the tourists drank reverently, LeafBright hid in a nearby tree with her mother.

“Mommy! That’s our house!” she whined.

YewBlood sighed. “I know! Still, we must follow Faerie law. Humans mustn’t see us.”

“But Mommy!” cringed LeafBright. “They’re drinking from our toilet!”

Each week, the Friday Fictioneers meet in a secret druidic temple in Scotland. There, virgin photos are sacrificed to the ancient gods. Not really, but it sounds fun, right? Photos are actually our inspiration for writing flash fiction. Won’t you join us and write a story? This week’s lovely photo was donated by Rachel Bjerke. Look here for more stories (at the blue frog) based upon the photo above: https://rochellewisofffields.wordpress.com/2015/03/18/20-march-2015/

About EagleAye

I like looking at the serious subjects in the news and seeking the lighter side of the issue. I love satire and spoofs. I see the ridiculous side of things all the time, and my goal is to share that light-hearted view.

  6. There is always someone out to make a buck off legend, even if the legends happen to be true. I don’t know who to feel worse for: the fairies or the tourists. It seems Maggie is the only one coming out on top on this deal. 🙂

Yup. There’s always is. And those trying to make a buck, often get the lore wrong. I agree Maggie is the only real victor in this. But then, she needs the money. There’s always new “needed” piercings and tickets for the Whitesnake revival. 😉

Thanks much for the visit! 🙂

Eric, You’ve outdone yourself this week. I made my wife listen to this as I read aloud. She laughed and responded, “Y’all are bent. It’s so cute.” (I’ll take that as a compliment. She’s pretty cute herself.)

Good work. I just hope those faeries don’t have anything catching.

    All my best,
    Marie Gail

Haha! Yes, this crowd is a bit bent, but in a good way. The faeries are all reasonably healthy. Luckily, no one is using DDT any more. Our tourists may get off easy, but who knows? I don’t think I’d ever trust stagnant water. Yikers! Glad you enjoyed, and thanks so much! 🙂

I think so too. There really is a lot of bad things going on. Looking at the news can be depressing. I’d like to add some goodness and laughter to the world, and share it with as many people as I can. I want to make a little corner of the world where people can put their feet up and smile and relax. Glad you’re enjoying your visits here. I do always like it when I see you’ve come in to relax. 🙂

No wonder the stupid humans are so easily tricked. Just wait until they eat the faerie food…

I know. Humans are so easily tricked, they trick themselves without a moment’s thought. And the food? Hmm. “Oh l found the most interesting spice in the drawer…” Could be a long day for our tourists!

Most entertaining. There’s so much that works well here – I love the fairy voices – and the image of them hiding in a tree while their home is invaded is wonderful. I love ‘Igalda’ too. Fun story.

Thank you! Igalda was made up because, I figured Maggie Jones made the name up too. I’m glad to know the story worked so well. Thanks so much for the wonderful comments. 🙂

  28. Hilarious, Eric. This reminds me of the time I saw a couple remove their shoes, as directed by an old man, and walk barefoot across a bridge covered by goat and sheep dung to see a small temple. “Not me, thank you,” I told my husband.. “There are plent;y of other temples to be seem.” Well done. 😀 — Suzanne

Haha! Yeah I think I wouldn’t go there either. I wouldn’t drink from the stagnant water in this fountain either, but you know some people will. I wonder if privately they film these things just to see what tourists are willing to do! 😀 Glad you joyed this. Thanks Suzanne! 🙂
